Dyke system for Cambodian coastal areas

“Tidal Inundation” is a big problem to reducing rice cultivation along coastal area.

Tidal inundation area are often abandoned. And even if we try to use as rice fields, the amount of rice yield in Tidal inundation area is only 10-50% of that of normal area because of the salt from the sea.

A case study was held in Preaek Tnaot and Preaek Kreng, and researchers of U-Tokyo confirmed that Dyke system is very effective to protect the rice field in Tidal inundation area.

They estimated that through introducing Dyke system, the amount of rice yield in Tidal inundation area will increase +198,520kg/year in the villages.
